Dr. Elizabeth Zahnd was born in Maryville, Missouri. She received her B.A. in French and Foreign Service from Baylor University (1992), her M.A. in French from the Middlebury College School in France (1993), and her Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary French Studies from the University of Illinois (1999). Her areas of specialization include contemporary novels of Quebec and the French Caribbean and French intellectuals of the Post World War II era. After living abroad in France (1992-93) and Quebec (1997-98), Dr. Zahnd joined the Francis Marion University faculty in 1999. Today she is active as the adviser of the Culture and Language Club and co-editor of the South Carolina Modern Language Review. Her hobbies include traveling and writing short stories. She is married to Timothy Bergfeld, a physicist at the University of South Carolina.
