Dr. Johnson received his Ph.D. in English from the University of Delaware. He joined the FMU faculty in 1996 as the chair of the English, Modern Languages and Philosophy department. Previously, he worked at Missouri Valley College as the dean of arts and humanities. Dr. Johnson's specialty is in 18th century fiction. In 1994, he published a critical edition of Sarah Fielding's "The Lives of Cleopatra and Octavia" for Bucknell University Press. He has also published a number of articles and conference papers on various literary topics and on composition pedagogy. He and his wife Christine have two sons and one daughter in grade school.
