 Academic Advising and Retention
The Office of Academic Advising and Retention
supports, complements, and contributes to the principal mission of
Francis Marion University, which is the effective teaching
and learning of the students. The office serves students with a
wide range of preparations and abilities by developing
specialized programs and support services to ensure academic success
and academic advising. Each student is assigned an
educational/academic adviser who assists in the planning and
completing of the student's academic program. Both the student and
the adviser follow the Policy on Educational Advising, a copy
of which is available in the Office of Academic Advising
and Retention. Although each student is responsible for the
proper completion of his/her academic program, he/she is
encouraged to confer with his/her adviser throughout the year.
Administration of the educational/academic advising program is
the responsibility of the Office of Academic Advising and
Retention in concert with the Provost's Office. Other
programs administered by this office include orientation, tutoring,
the Comprehensive Achievement Program and Freshman
Seminar.
