Francis Marion University supports and enforces the laws
of South Carolina concerning offenses involving use and/or
possession of alcoholic beverages or drugs. It is permissible
for those of legal drinking age (21) to consume alcoholic
beverages in the confines of their campus apartments only. No
alcoholic beverages or alcoholic beverage containers are
permitted in the residence halls or in any public areas of the
University.
Alcoholic beverages may only be served at approved events.
Approval to serve alcoholic beverages must be granted by
the Vice President or Provost responsible for the sponsoring
organization or department. Forms requesting permission to
serve alcoholic beverages are available through the offices of
each Vice President and the Provost. The serving of alcoholic
beverages at campus events must be in compliance with state
law and established university policies and guidelines.
State of South Carolina statutes prohibit certain activities
regarding alcoholic beverages or drugs. The law provides
for certain penalties ranging from fines (up to $5,000 for
certain violations) to time in jail (up to 5 years for certain violations).
Violations of the law also subject the offender to
administrative sanctions under the University's rules and regulations.
