Dr. Brown received his B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin (1992), his M.S. from the Universidad de Costa Rica (1996), and his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University (1999). His geographical area of specialization is Latin America and his topical areas include cultural geography and cultural ecology. Currently, his research focuses on folk housing and its context within both the cultural landscape and the natural environment of Mexico and Central America. Areas of teaching interest include Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, cultural geography, political geography, economic geography, and GIS. He avidly enjoys taking students abroad on field courses and takes pride in helping students to become geographically literate and appreciative of world cultures. His hobbies include traveling and studying landscapes. Dr. Brown is also active in the Pee Dee Group of the Sierra Club and is advisor for the College Democrats at Francis Marion University. |
