Ms. Catherine made this broom in the 1990s in response to my request for one made with old-time cloth. Perhaps blue denim was the only old-time cloth she had on hand, so I am responsible that this broom is atypical. This cloth is much stiffer than the cloth that was routinely used; they usually used cloth that had been washed hundreds of times, cloth that had become very soft and thin. (Photo 1998)
