REGISTRATION: 9:00 a.m., Founders Hall
COMPETITION: 10:00 a.m., Founders Hall
PRE-REGISTRATION DEADLINE: September 19

LUNCH:

You may have lunch at the cafeteria on campus or at any one of the local restaurants.Suggest for the students to bring a bag lunch or as much money as they usually spend for a fast food lunch. For suggestions of area restaurants call: (843)393-9827

CONDITIONS:

  1. Each contestant will recite any one of the four selections at his level. There is no mandatory selection this year. (However, on the years when FMU’s fall break is in November, we require a mandatory selection and 2 poems.)
  2. Judges will base their decision on the rubric, which is included within the registration information that follows.
  3. The poems have been taken from standard editions. No change or variation of the text as given will be accepted. Students must recite selections as they are printed.
  4. First, second and third places will be awarded at the discretion of the judges. Prizes will be presented at the awards ceremony at 1:00 p.m. in the auditorium of Founders Hall.
  5. Contestants will not be permitted to listen to other participants. Teachers, however, may listen to all students.
  6. Students may compete only in the languages and levels for courses in which they are currently enrolled. In the case of block scheduling, a student who has completed a language course and who is not currently enrolled in that language may compete at the level most recently completed.
  7. No more than two students per teacher per course may be entered.
